Could this be the end of California's Public "Futility" Commission?

Full story on changes at the Public Utility Commission

Three new Commissioners at the California Public Utilities Commission could change it from the Public "Futility" Commission into something that actually protects consumers [GASP!]

New appointees could transform the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), from a "lap dog," into a watchdog

The end of an era at CPUC?
Governor Brown's new appointees to California's most powerful regulatory court - the California Public Utilities Commission - has the potential to restore integrity to a tarnished institution. Full Story.

Q&A - SDG&E and ESPs: What is direct access and how does it affect me?

Q&A time! We received received an inquiry from an SDG&E customer about some ESP charges that appeared on his bill. SDG&E bills him for his electricity use, but it is another company that actually provides him the electricity.  Sidestepping the obvious ESP mind reading he should have seen it coming bad joke, let’s jump right in to the heart of the ESP issue.

Robocalls - ruining your R&R one call at a time

After a long day, there are few things better than sinking into a comfy chair and relaxing with some soothing music. But before you can hit play on the music player of your choice, your cell phone starts playing the theme song to Air Wolf (doesn’t everyone have that as their ring tone?) You glance at the caller ID, which is a strange number. Thinking it may be important, you answer the phone, only to discover it’s a terminator! Well, not quite. It’s a machine of another sort--a robocall.

Money for Electricity: PUC's one-time bill assistance program

With the summer heat in full swing, relief in any sense of the word is welcome. Popsicples, otter pops, ice cream cones, sea breezes, and air conditioning provide respite in sweltering summer days. However, the bill for only one of these cooling concoctions is eligible for the California Public Utility Commission's (PUC) new program. Hint--you won't be seeing Mike Peevey driving an ice cream truck around town.

Is SDG&E cooking the books to get undeserved bonuses?

Is SDG&E Cooking the books to game the California Public Utilities Commission out of bonus money for meeting green energy goals? Probably.

PUC re-appointment of Chong rejected by Senate

On December 8th, the head of the State Senate announced that the Senate would not hold a hearing to confirm PUC Commissioner Rachelle Chong. Chong, who has been severely criticized by consumer groups, was first appointed in 2006 and had been seeking a term that would have lasted through 2014.   If Chong is not confirmed this year, she will be forced to step down from the Commission.   This is the first time in modern history that a PUC appointment has been rejected by the Senate.  Read why.................
