Fine Print Gotcha's
- What actions trigger a contract renewal or extension? Some companies will renew your contract anytime you change your plan. Other companies extend your agreement if you accept promotional offerings. If you can’t find it in the contract, ask the sales rep to write out any action that would renew or extend your service agreement with the company.
- What if your phone breaks? Will they replace it with a new or refurbished phone?
- Which services included in your plan require you to opt-out? Some carriers sell phones that come pre-loaded with trial versions of additional features and services. If you do not opt-out of the service after the trial period, you are automatically subscribed. Find out which features on your phone are opt-out as opposed to opt-in.
- Are there hidden fees? Some companies charge all new customers an activation fee. There are also monthly fees that should be described in your contract. The government imposes some of these fees, while your service provider determines others.
